BYD South West are proud to be working with Motability, the national charity that creates affordable and accessible motoring for people with disabilities.
The Motability scheme allows you to exchange your government-funded mobility allowance for a brand new BYD electric or hybrid vehicle.
The BYD Motability scheme offers a simple leasing experience. All cars include the cost of insurance, with up to three drivers, servicing and MOTS, as well as breakdown cover and support with charging.
Who is eligible to apply for the BYD Motability scheme?
To be eligible to join the Scheme, you will need to receive, or be a carer for someone who receives, one of the following allowances and must have at least 12 months’ award length of your allowance remaining.
• Higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
• Enhanced rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
• War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
• Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
• Higher rate mobility component of Scotland’s Child Disability Payment (CDP).
• Enhanced rate mobility component of Scotland’s Adult Disability Payment (ADP).
How BYD South West are making driving an electric car more accessible
When you lease a BYD on the Motability scheme, we can support with the costs of installing a home charger at your property. While we can arrange for a standard installation, additional costs may apply if you require a non-standard installation. If you’re unable to have a home charger, we’ll subsidise with charging credits.
We also understand that everyone’s showroom experience varies, so we are committed to making it inclusive and accessible. These features include step-free access to the showroom, a quiet area within the premises, and an accessible customer toilet.
We also offer attended or unattended test drives, allowing you to try out our range of BYD’s New Energy Vehicles at your own pace.

The BYD South West Motability Scheme also offers support with electric car charging, a 60,000 mileage limit on a three-year lease and a 100,000 mileage limit on a five-year lease.
BYD Motability Scheme FAQs
Any driver with a qualifying mobility allowance that has at least 12 months remaining is eligible to apply to join the Motability scheme.
The Motability scheme is limited to one driver under the age of 21 on your Motor Insurance. This could be the customer or an additional named driver.
There are some instances where the scheme may require you to have a tracking device fitted to your vehicle. This is done to ensure the vehicle is always being used at the benefit of the disabled customer. The only data the tracking device obtains is the vehicle location. This is not always required and will be communicated with you clearly if it is.
Comprehensive insurance for up to three named drivers comes included as standard with your Motability car. As well as insurance, servicing and maintenance costs are also included.
As part of your BYD lease on the Motability scheme, we’ll cover the cost of a standard installation of an EV charger at your property. Additional charges will apply if your property requires non-standard installation and if you are not able to install a charger, you will be subsidised with charging credits as an alternative.
