BYD warranty explained

When you choose a BYD, you’re not just stepping into advanced electric or hybrid technology, you’re also benefiting from one of the most comprehensive manufacturer warranty packages available. At BYD South West, we’re often asked what’s covered, for how long, and what customers need to do to keep their warranty protected. Here’s everything you need to know.

Comprehensive warranty as standard

Every new BYD sold in the UK comes with a manufacturer‑backed warranty designed to provide reassurance throughout your ownership journey. The policy covers the vehicle itself, key high‑voltage components, and the advanced battery technology that sits at the heart of every BYD model.

Vehicle warranty

All BYD passenger vehicles supplied in the UK are covered by a six‑year or 93,750‑mile vehicle warranty, whichever comes first. This warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship and applies when the vehicle is used and maintained in line with BYD’s guidelines. This gives drivers confidence that their BYD has been engineered for long‑term reliability, whether it’s used for daily commuting, family life, or business travel.

Blade Battery

High‑voltage battery warranty

One of the standout features of BYD ownership is the long‑term battery cover. BYD’s industry‑leading Blade Battery is protected by an eight‑year/155,000‑mile warranty, offering reassurance on the most valuable component of your vehicle. The battery warranty protects against manufacturing defects and excessive capacity loss, ensuring the battery performs as expected throughout the warranty period when maintained correctly.

Electric drive unit and key EV components

In addition to the main vehicle warranty, BYD also provides long‑term cover on key electric vehicle components, including the electric motor, motor controller, and high-voltage control systems. These components are included as part of BYD’s comprehensive EV warranty coverage, reflecting the brand’s confidence in its in‑house technology and manufacturing standards.

Super DM technology

Hybrid (DM‑i) warranty coverage

For BYD plug‑in hybrid (DM‑i) models, the warranty structure follows the same principle, with vehicle warranty covering manufacturing defects, battery and electric components covered under the extended high‑voltage warranty, and hybrid‑specific systems protected when serviced in line with BYD recommendations.

What’s not covered?

As with all manufacturer warranties, certain items are considered wear and tear and are not covered. These typically include:

  • Brake pads and discs
  • Tyres
  • Wiper blades
  • Interior trim wear
  • Damage caused by misuse, accidents, or unauthorised modifications

Full exclusions and terms are detailed in the official BYD warranty documentation.

Keeping your BYD warranty valid

To maintain warranty protection, BYD requires vehicles to be serviced at the recommended intervals, maintained using approved procedures, and repaired with genuine BYD parts where required.

Servicing your vehicle with BYD South West ensures all work is carried out by manufacturer‑trained technicians, using the latest diagnostic equipment and genuine BYD parts, helping to protect your warranty and your vehicle’s long‑term value.

Our goal is to make ownership as straightforward and stress‑free as possible, from your first test drive through to years of confident driving. For more information, speak to our team at BYD South West, who will be happy to explain exactly how your BYD is protected.
