The smart #5: all you need to know
Proclaimed as a Tesla Model Y rival, the smart #5 will be the smart brand’s most premium car so far.
Being launched with two trim levels, this all-electric, mid-size SUV will be kitted out with the latest tech and a luxury interior.
This model is expected to arrive near the beginning of next year, so let’s take a look at what we know so far.
The smart #5 Design and Technology
It gives off a Land Rover Defender look with a bit of Mercedes-Benz lavishness.
It has been created with an adventurous and spontaneous character, so you get roof bars and an electric trailer hitch.
You can even pay extra for an Adventurer’s Collection package which gets you side steps, a ladder, a side bag, a roof carrier, and underbody protection. Perfect for those weekend explorers who often venture out on different terrains.
For those who enjoy off-road driving, various driving modes—Adaptive, Sand, Snow, Mud, and Rock—make the smart #5 a versatile vehicle, ready to handle a variety of conditions.
In terms of technology inside the cockpit, you’ll get a 10.3-inch ultra HD driver’s display and two 13-inch AMOLED 2.5 driver displays. You’ll even get 25.6-inch augmented-reality head-up display.
The smart #5 introduces a new mascot, “Leo the Lion,” which enhances the SUV’s playful yet premium vibe. Leo will accompany drivers with a series of interactive features and assistive technologies that ensure safety and entertainment on the road.
smart #5 Space and Practicality
You get a boot capacity of 1,530 litres with all the rear seats folded down – capacity with the seats up hasn’t been revealed yet!
You even get additional storage space in the front thanks to a 72 litre frunk (front trunk) which is handy for smaller items that you’d like to keep accessible, maybe a pair of shoes or your lunch?
The smart #5 Electric Range and Charging
Electric range is expected to be around 350 miles, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet.
The smart #5 will be powered by a 100kWh battery which smart has stated should be able to charge from 10-80% in just 15 minutes.
The fast charging capability will be a significant selling point, making it a highly convenient option whether you’re wanting a car for long trips or just for your daily commute.
smart #5 Pricing
Pricing for the smart #5 hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it has been tipped to be around £35-40k, making it competitive with the Tesla Model Y and other mid-range electric SUVs.
Given the premium features, advanced technology, and the brand’s shift towards more luxurious offerings, it will be a compelling option for eco-conscious drivers seeking style and substance.
As the smart #5 prepares to hit the roads early next year, it promises to bring a fresh take on the electric SUV, combining premium elements, adventure-ready features, and cutting-edge technology.
Keep an eye on this model—it’s poised to shake up the EV market in a big way.
